Reus (Mountain Reindeer Subtype)

Visual Trait Index

The largest of the reindeer standing at 15hh, they are typically dark coat during the spring and summer months while in the late fall they start growing their winter coat of near white. They live in the mountains in the highest elevation, forested areas with deep snowfall, and they feed solely on tree lichens during winter.  This gives them relatively high protection from predators in the winter months, but can leave them vulnerable as predators work into higher elevations during the summer.

They frequently face off predators, year after year some have dwindled in number.  Wolves and lynxes are their main predators that are able to track and hunt them with ease even in the mountains and are able to keep up with them as they flee, unlike the wolverines and bears in the area.  During the calving season, golden eagles are able to take one down but only one a time else their kill will be stolen.  The high elevation is also the cause for many deaths where many have fallen or rolled down.

All Reus reindeer that breed will face a roll if their calf survives or not.  If not, they have to wait till the next birthing season.  The item to save a calf life known as "Birth Safely" can be used on the site.
