Glossary

This page contains quick definitions of commonly used terms. If a term has a longer lore page, it will be linked via the name of the term

Adopt

Also known as adoptable, this can be many things, but in short, it's a design or character to purchase.  Sometimes even to trade for art, an item, etc.,

Antlers

Two growing points on a reindeer's head that are made out of bone.  Reindeer are the only deer species that both sexes can grow antlers.  As they grow, they are surrounded in velvet.  This velvet is then shed with blood, showing the bone underneath.  They usually rub them against things to take it off.

Bull's antlers fall off after the rutting season, while cows keep them during the winter months.

ARPG

Art roleplaying game.  Art can be literature and digital or traditional art, and more depending on the group's rules.  For us, only digital art, traditional art, and literature is allowed.

Bull

A male reindeer, though, can be interchanged with "stag" and "buck".

Calf

A young reindeer until they turn 4 years of age.  Can also be interchanged with fawn.

Cow

A female reindeer, though, can be interchanged with "doe".

Design

A design is a colored lineart, usually with flat colors, to showcase the base coat among with modifiers, mutations, and markings.  Depending on the group, this can be very detailed to basic.   This design is how the character is kept track, in which case for us, the reindeer will be tracked with an official design upon creation.

Dominant Gene

Dominant refers to the relationship between two versions of a gene. Individuals receive two versions of each gene, known as alleles, from each parent. If the alleles of a gene are different, one allele will be expressed; it is the dominant gene.

EXP

Also known as XP.  These two abbreviations mean experience points.  These points are gained with each art or literature you submit.

Faved/Fave/Faves

A short slang for Favorite, often used in past tense.  Also without a d for "fave".

Example usages:
"I faved your reindeer!"
"This reindeer is my fave!"
"I added them to my faves!"

Genotype

The genetics of your reindeer.  This is how we determine how your reindeer will breed and what will be carried along with Traits.

Imports

Imports are designs created by staff for others to adopt.

Lineage

This is to keep track of parents, grandparents, etc., of your reindeer.  Much like one does with a horse with a pedigree, which is the same thing.

Lineart

A drawn piece that is made for others to use to color in to create a design.

Mutation

A random genetic that can affect a reindeer's appearance, color. Often shortened to "mute(s)".

MYO

Make Your Own.

Phenotype

Also known as pheno in some groups.  This is the written form of genetics.  Those that do not show are not included, such as "Black Spotted" or "Flaxen Chestnut".

Recessive Gene

Recessive Gene refers to the relationship between an observed trait and the two inherited versions of a gene related to that trait. Individuals inherit two versions of each gene, known as alleles, from each parent. In the case of a recessive trait, the alleles of the trait-causing gene are the same, and both (recessive) alleles must be present to express the trait. A recessive allele does not produce a trait at all when only one copy is present. This contrasts to a dominant trait, which requires that only one of the two alleles be present to express the trait.

RNG

Random Number Generator.  Also used as an umbrella term for anything random, while a number from 0 and upward is rolled much like you would with dice. This is often used for raffles, breeding, events, battles (at times), item drops, and more.

Roller

Much like RNG, this is a built roller to roll a result.

Skills

Your reindeer has skills that they can level up in roleplay pieces.

Slot

Also referred as "Breeding Slot", this is given away however way the owner wishes, so long as it follows our rules.  We do not have a limit of slots, unlike others.

Trait

While it can be genetic, on here they are used as something that doesn't have a genetic but affects the appearance of the reindeer.  This can be antler sizes, antler colors, eye colors, etc.  This is so that it's easy to keep track of which reindeer has what, especially for breeding purposes.

User Rank

What group a user is in, ranges from the Founder, Staff, Site Artists, Coders, Beta Testers, Donators, Discord Boosters, and finally Members.
